galaxyyarchive.info turns to galaxyyarchive.blogspot.com

It has now been 4 years since founding the biggest Galaxy Y blog - GalaxyYArchive and most likely 90% of you have moved on to newer devices and barely even visit the website nowadays.

It has been a fun ride, but I have decided to stop paying for the domain name galaxyyarchive.info and use the original one provided by Google's Blogger platform - http://galaxyyarchive.blogspot.com

For those of you that visit the website frequently to look for ancient content whether it is converted ARMv6 apps, general tips and tricks for gingerbread devices, or even for the Galaxy Y, you should start visiting http://galaxyyarchive.blogspot.com starting from today. The original domain will still work for a couple of more days and redirect you to http://galaxyyarchive.blogspot.com

Those of you that are still interested in Android modding can drop http://droid-tips.com a visit and check out the articles.

Closed Project: Cyanogenmod 12 (Lollipop 5.0.x) for Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360

Happy New Year everybody!
Great news for Cyanogenmod fans! Our little Samsung galaxy Y GT-S5360 will be getting the CyanogenMod 12 rom. This means that our device will soon get Android 5.0.x Lollipop. Well that's great news for this device after a long time. Cyanogenmod 11 is also getting stable after each update. I just hope that the developers of cyanogenmod 12 (androidarmv6) hurry up and release a stable version of cyanogenmod 12 as they already have released an experimental build but its not flashable and can brick your device so everybody pls don't try that build right now!

NOTE:- Guys I have seen a few comments where people are asking me how to flash this rom. I am saying it again its just an EXPERIMENTAL build and you should NEVER try to flash this kind of build. Experimental builds are only for developers. Such kind of build can hard brick your device which means that it is dead and there is no way to fix a hard bricked device. I will write a new post when a flashable build of the rom is released with ways to install it on your device. But till then be patient.

UPDATE :- Sorry Guys but I just got to know that the project has been shut down because there was no way by which ART (Android Runtime) could be fixed for Galaxy Y. Also an update regarding Cyanogenmod 11. We would not be getting any further updates for CM11 as well. That project has been shut down as well. The download server as well as Jenkins has been shut down so those who want to download the latest CM11 build can download it from here. So again we will NOT get Cyanogenmod 12 for Galaxy Y as well as NO UPDATES for Cyanogenmod11.

Website changes and new look

So as you all know, the website has been pretty much dead for the past 3-4 months due to my high inactivity and lack of new content such as roms, kernels and themes for the Galaxy Y GT-S5360. A big thanks goes to who has just recently started taking my place in posting new content for the Galaxy Y while I was away from the blogging world and I would like to mention that I will also begin making new posts and upload videos again for the last few roms and themes that were missed out.

The other news is that this website will now have support for the new Galaxy Young (S6310) model. You will see roms, kernels, themes, tutorials, tips and tricks posted for it as well as videos in the YouTube channel. Since the phone is very affordable and is not bad at all for its budget price, you could even consider upgrading to it if you are on a very tight budget.

Also, if you haven't noticed already, the website now has a new look. This was done so that all three archive projects can now have the same look. It is possible that you may encounter 404 error pages and small glitches in the first few hours until the new template is succesfully implemented to the blog.

Broadcom Goes Open-Source: Will Galaxy Y See a Fully Stable CM ROM?

Last year, some developers from Broadcom decided to give our CM developers a hand with pre-built test drivers that could not be modified and it didn't seem to work out that well.

Just yesterday, Broadcom have announced at their blog that they have decided to release the full source of the OpenGL ES 1.1 and 2.0 driver stack for the Broadcom VideoCore® IV 3D graphics subsystem used in the BCM21553 3G integrated baseband SoC.

Experienced programmers can:
  • Rebuild the BCM21553 Android 4.0 graphics stack from source
  • Develop fully open drivers for other VideoCore devices, including the Raspberry Pi’s BCM2835 and the BCM21654 (a low-cost 3G integrated baseband for emerging markets).
  • Gain insight into the internal operation of VideoCore for performance tuning purposes
  • Write general-purpose code leveraging the GPU compute capability on VideoCore devices

This is basically what the developers have been waiting to see for pretty much two years now and it has finally happened. The question now is, will the Galaxy Y actually get a stable CyanogenMod or another AOSP rom? These drivers appear to be for the AOSP ICS source which means that we could actually see a working CyanogenMod9 build in the near future.

Unfortunately for us, this happened quite late as many people have given up hope long ago and possibly ditched their Galaxy Y for something better. Still, there are developers out there that may give this a try and release a well working build for the Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360.

Pretty much everyone at xda-developers forums at the moment is excited because of the news and I am guessing you are all excited now as well because this is something that we have dreamed for ever since the beginning of Galaxy Y's custom rom development.

Stay tuned and be sure to check the blog daily for any updates regarding this recent revolutionary news.

UPDATE: Please check the YouTube channel for news regarding the progress.

News: We now have a Google Plus page

Yes, yes, we know it's a bit late and I mean really late to create another social fan page of the blog but for those of you who dislike using Facebook or Twitter but prefer Google+, you can now be up to date with the latest posts from the blog with Google+ announcements.

All you need to do is look for the widget on the right side between the Popular Posts and YouTube and click that +1 button. From then, you will always be notified for the latest uploaded video or published blog post.

Thanks,

GalaxyYArchive - 200 Video Uploads Celebration + Giveaway (Ends 24th October)

I am glad to announce that the YouTube channel has just hit the 200 uploads milestone, all of which are helpful tutorials and miscellaneous reviews about root apps, normal apps, tweaks, custom roms, kernels, and some games.

All of this could not have been possible without your support, comments and feedback about the website. It's been really fun through this 1 year and 7 months as this was not just a dull archive website, but a place where we could share feedback to each other and maybe even learn a few things or two.

It would be really selfish if not a single gift was given out for this achievement. Unfortunately, for some people who have wanted the gift to be a device, that wouldn't be possible due to financial reasons. Plus, this website is based off a single Samsung Galaxy model and it would kind of be pointless to give out another device, so giving out some accessories would be better as they will be specially for your Galaxy Y.

Those who want to check out the giveaway, you may watch this video:

If you've ever wanted a neat free protective cover, screen protector or another battery, you may give it a shot and leave a comment, it's really simple.

Reminder about requirements:

  1. Be subscribed to the GYA channel
  2. Be subscribed to this channel if you haven't (REQUIRED): http://youtube.com/mitkoreviews - Click here to subscribe.
  3. Leave just ONE comment with what you would like to win out of the 3 accessories.
  4. The 3 winners will be announced 24th October on the blog, video channel and facebook page
Winners will be chosen randomly through http://random.org on October 24 and will be announced during the random.org video session, here on the blog and the Facebook page.

Comments that do not include the item's name that you picked, or about commenting my looks (which some seem to have already did and those "judges" will remain blocked from commenting) will not be counted as qualifications.

Good luck!
